Stacy’s Story

February 26, 2025

Stacy was a known face at Cathedral Kitchen, as she came every day for a hot meal. She was homeless and struggling with substance use disorder, and stuck in a harmful pattern. Her partner was incarcerated, and she no longer had custody of her children due to her situation. Our Empowerment Coach, Beck, got to know her through daily conversation, developing a relationship and creating a safe space where Stacy knew she could come to for support without judgement.

One day, Stacy showed up for meal service and told Beck that she had been drugged and assaulted, and that she was in a scary situation and wanted to get help. Beck worked with Stacy to take that first step and find a long-term program that she felt comfortable attending. CK was able to provide transportation for Stacy, and through the program she was able to complete detox. She has since moved to a residential and housing part of the program, where they were able to help her get a job. Stacy was also able to regain custody of her three small children, and is doing very well.

Because Stacy had CK as a support system, she felt comfortable enough to take that first step, and has since made sustainable changes towards achieving stability. She knew that she could come to CK in a crisis, and that someone would listen to her and provide support in a nonjudgmental space.
