CK Contract Meals
Wikipedia defines a social enterprise as an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in human and environmental well-being.
Cathedral Kitchen saw an opportunity to expand a very limited contract meal initiative with our partner, Volunteers of America (VOA), when the building next door became available. Turning it into a large commercial kitchen to provide 1,600 contract meals a day to eight of VOA’s shelters and halfway houses created a true social enterprise. CK chefs are able to plan “made from scratch” meals that include fresh produce for the residents of these facilities.
Contract meals, catering and the CK Café are self-sustaining and also provide a stable revenue stream to supplement funding for CK’s human services programs Even better, it employs many of the graduates of CK’s job training programs and local Camden residents!
CK cooks, former culinary graduates, take pride in their efforts to prepare delicious, healthy meals for local shelters and halfway houses as part of CK’s Contract Meal program.
