At CK, we see how hunger impacts our neighbors every single day. When our doors open, our most vulnerable community members flood into our dining room to enjoy a meal and the other services we provide. Yet, if you’re not looking closely, it can be easy to go through the motions of work, school, laundry, and oil changes, without paying attention to what hunger is actually doing to our communities.

The reality is, food insecurity exists here in New Jersey, and it is trending up. From 2020 to 2024, hunger in New Jersey increased by 89% and now more than 1 in 8 residents are food insecure. While hunger is felt on an individual level, the impacts of hunger and food insecurity spread much further, harming our communities and future.
During Hunger Action Month, we urge you to find a new way to engage with New Jersey’s food insecurity. Whether its volunteering, making and donating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, learning about recent legislation that impacts food security, or donating funds directly, please take this time to understand hunger more deeply and to take action.
