Cathedral Kitchen, a nonprofit organization in Camden, has been dedicated to using food as a means to transform lives for 49 years. Our mission is to help people out of food insecurity and champion their pursuit of stability and prosperity. We achieve this through various programs, including our Meal Program, which provides dinner on weekdays and lunch on Saturdays to individuals and families from Camden and across South Jersey. Our doors are open to all, and during meals, we collaborate with other nonprofit organizations to offer services that help our guests improve their lives.
Position Summary
The Director of Programs and Data Management, (DPDM) oversees the daily operations of the Meal Program, managing staff including two Empowerment Coaches (case managers), a security person, and the rest of the meal program team during meal program, and coordinating with partner organizations to ensure smooth service delivery. This role ensures that staff, volunteers and guests have a positive experience and that services are delivered effectively to meet guest needs. Additionally, the Director is responsible for data collection and analysis and program evaluation.
This role calls for strong organizational and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to make thoughtful decisions under pressure. The DPDM will communicate clearly and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals, always looking for ways to improve operations and better serve our guests.
A key aspect of this position involves creative problem-solving — finding practical solutions to improve daily operations within the available space. It also requires engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, including those facing substance use and mental health challenges, while calmly de-escalating sometimes tense situations.
Success in this role comes from a genuine passion for serving vulnerable populations and a commitment to providing support in a welcoming, trauma-informed way. The environment is fast-paced and ever-evolving, requiring steady leadership, hospitality and conflict management.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise and coach empowerment team staff (currently two team members), security personnel, and meal program team during meal program hours, which are currently 2:30pm – 5:30pm.
- Oversee the Meal Program’s daily operations, ensuring a safe, calm, and welcoming environment.
- Foster positive relationships with guests, volunteers, and staff.
- Coordinates logistics for daily services including filling in for someone if necessary, not including kitchen staff.
- Oversee all events for meal guests, including the Point-in-Time homelessness count and other special gatherings.
- Manage staff, partner organization staff, and sometimes volunteers to ensure smooth program operation.
- De-escalate situations involving guests as needed, provide de-escalation training refreshers for Meal Program Team during weekly meetings.
- Oversee Personal Care – Plans how CK will distribute personal hygiene items (like socks and underwear) to meal guests and oversees volunteers to manage the distribution and inventory.
Program Development & Partnerships
- Strengthen existing partnerships and establish partnerships with new organizations to expand services for meal guests.
- Serve as the primary liaison between CK and partner organizations, ensuring clear communication and service coordination.
- Implement operational improvements to enhance the guest experience in a trauma-informed manner.
- Develop and implement training for staff on program changes.
- Helps facilitate service coordination between CK empowerment coach staff and case managers from other organizations.
Case Management & Guest Support
- Provide some light-touch case management, offering resources and referrals as needed when the empowerment coaches are at capacity.
- Possibly maintain a small caseload of guests in need of more direct support.
Data & Program Evaluation
- Oversee data collection, entry, and analysis related to guest outcomes and provided services.
- Establish data collection protocols and ensuring data quality across programs.
- Serve as the lead administrator for CK’s client information database (Apricot), including training users, running reports, and ensuring data quality.
- Manage CK Surveys for feedback: Volunteer Survey, Guest Survey, CAT Survey.
- Manage CK’s data dashboard, Power BI.
- Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
- Generate reports and dashboards to communicate key program insights to senior management.
Qualifications
- Passion for Cathedral Kitchen’s mission and empathy for its client population.
- Education & Experience:
- BA in Social Work or related field + at least 5 years of direct service experience (including case management) with vulnerable populations.
- MSW or a similar advanced degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of staff supervision experience, and coordinating or managing programs.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience with data collection and evaluation, including database management.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills (Spanish proficiency is a plus).
- Ability to work collaboratively, set goals, resolve problems, and make sound decisions.
- Knowledge of Camden-based institutions and organizations serving low-income populations is a preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
- Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive nonprofit salary ($75,000 – $80,000 dependent on experience and credentials)
- Full Time Position with availability until 5:30pm each day.
- This is an exempt in-person position.
- This job is eligible for health benefits for you and your dependents. Cathedral Kitchen will pay 75% of the cost for you and for each family member. Cathedral Kitchen will also pay 50% of the cost for dental insurance for you and each family member. Eligibility for health and dental benefits begins the first of the month after 60 days of employment.
- Participation in the Cathedral Kitchen Matching 401k program is available after 12 months.
- Paid Time Off (PTO) after 90 days of employment, 15 Days annually
- Cathedral Kitchen is closed on the following holidays if they fall on a weekday, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
